TomTom GO 910 Reviews

Review Tom Tom Go 910

I've had my GO910 for 2 months, and can recognise the problems stated by others. However when its working, its really a very very good piece of kit.
I bought this to tour France in early May, and like other reviews, my 910 was shipped with earlier map software, and tomtom refused to give me a free update, despite the unit being brand new.

There were a few teething troubles resulting in the pin in the back reboot, usually after being on the computer, but those problems seemed to resolve themselves.
The GO 910 worked fine for a month, but then locked up (like they seem to do) after connecting to the computer. I had all the problems going such as screen freeze, red flashing circle, couldn't turn it off, etc. but fortunately it would work when attached to the computer.

After waiting for the non existent tomtom support, I eventually cured it myself.

What I did was to enter the GO Change Preference screens until screen 7 which gives a "reset to factory settings option". On selecting this the unit cured itself, and so far has been OK. I must add that I also returned to an earlier back-up state, and deleted a number of files, so it could have been a mixture of cures.

Tomtom must recognise that there are clearly still some bugs in their product, and they are not winning any customer confidence with their poor support and slow rectification. But as I say, when its working, its an excellant piece of kit. Tom Tom Go 910 Reviews at Amazon

Review TomTom Go 910

I bought the TomTom Go 910 as a birthday present and have nothing but praise for the gadget!

- excellent instructions in many languages, they even have funny voices!
- handy touch screen
- handsfree phonecalls
- would recommend the FM transmitter mount as accessory

I used to be the navigator in the household, struggling with the mapbook and some printed Internet routemaps, I can now sit back and let the Tom Tom guide my friend to wherever he needs to go. No more fighting!! Tom Tom Go 910 Reviews at Amazon

The Go 910 is fab! It works great everywhere i have used it. However it does have a problem crashing for no apparent reason. I know of several colleagues who have experienced the same problem. It is easily fixed though, at the back of the 910 is a very small hole, almost unseen, you can put a paper clip in there to reset the device. May i suggest all 910s come with a paper clip!!!

More importantly after I had successfully connected my TomTom Go 910 to my Intel iMac several times, TomTom Home crashed repeatedly, and the iMac would no longer recognize the TomTom drive as connected.

TomTom support' response:

"we have detected a compatibility issue with the Intel Core Duo processor, it uses a different architecture than the G4/G5 Mac processors. This architecture (i386) is the normal PC architecture so the Mac OS had to be completely redesigned or hybridized to work with it. Because of this reason is that we cannot guarantee that TomTom HOME will work free of problems. Our developers are already working in a solution for this issue."

To date there is no fix nor any warning on their website.

So great device but no good for updates. Frustrating as have bought into the traffic and camera updates!! Tom Tom Go 910 Reviews at Amazon

With hindsight, and having now read the reviews of this product, I would not have bought the Go 910. I've had the same issues as everyone else... when delivered and powered up it worked fine, but as soon as I connected it to the unit to my PC to update / back up, the unit ceased to work.

It just continually froze when powering up. It would work when connected to the PC (really useful when I want to use it in the car !!!). Pyramid (the supplier) were great, replacing the unit 3 times without any quibbles, and ultimately refunding me. Tom Tom support weren't much help at all. I've now got a Garmin which is working fine.
