Reviews Go 510

It is a shame that people may be put of this Tom Tom Go 510 God send by others being overly critical. Fact: Navigating with a map whilst on your own with a deadline to make is some of the worst stress you will ever endure on the increasingly jammed road around the UK. This Tom Tom Go 510 gadget not only gives you the best route on 99% of occasions (the remaining 1 % is simply a gesture to shut up the critics) it will also provide you with an alternate route if the one you're on is jammed, amazing! Even when you have someone to read a map for you it is still eye poppingly stressful and can ruin even the most pleasant of routes. So my opinion - 1. I have only had to reset the unit 3 times in a year and its is easily done in seconds and it was fully functional afterwards. 2. It gives me a constantly updated arrival time and so if i am going to be late, once i'm through any traffic, i can call my family/client with an accurate update of my arrival time. 3. The calculated arrival time is invariably correct to only a few minutes, even over long journeys and heavy traffic (I guess it factors in traffic, etc) which is brilliant. 4. I know what time to leave by planning ahead and so i rarely need to rush and/or speed anymore. 5. My driving is safer because i spend more time looking at the road whilst listening to the instructions.

Yes, the Tom Tom Go 510 can get a bit behind and yes it will take you down the odd country lane fit only for a childs bike but overall it is brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. If you can, try a friends before you buy but i bet 99% (one percent again missed off for the critics) will get right out there and buy one within no time. I am forty and the only better invention i have seen in my lifetime was the garden gnome which f****d when you walked past, now that too was brilliant for words.

I like the Tom Tom Go 510 so far the only niggle was it would not turn on once.

No troubleshooting on instructions, found cure on internet, reset button underside. With the tomtom turned over and the card slot on top right hand side there is a small rubber foot at the half moon shaped enterance, up at about the 10 o'clock position from the foot, but before the green circuit board there is a small half round cut out with a hole under you need to press in this hole for a few seconds with a paper clip to reset.

I wonder how many people have sent their tomtoms back that would not turn on. Tom Tom Go 510 Review at Amazon...

All in all Tom Tom Go 510 is a very decent piece of kit. The only issue I have, is with the traffic info. It is very slow when tuning in to the radio frequencies to recieve the information. In some cases it can be too late. You can hit the congestion before the areial tunes in.

I frequently use the itinerary planning section of the device. Using waypoints. You can browse the map and all your waypoints are numbered, enabling you to optimise the order of each waypoint, thus insuring you take the quickest/shortest route. Absoloutly essential in my line of work. Don't know however I did without one. I used to have a Pakard Bell model that actually optimised the order of each waypoint automatically (the device assembled it's own order). However, the device didn't have a 7 digit postcode search, only a 5 digit. For example, RG6 4 a list of all the roads for that postcode would appear and I would choose one and a number.

Tom Tom Go 510 wasn't good if I was looking for a house name on a certain road. With the TomTom 510 you can enter the full postcode eg. RG64 6AE and this would take you to the actual house if it had a name instead of a number. Each house that is named rather than numbered has it's own unique 6/7 digit postcode. Wheras, a road with numerous numbers frequently comes under the same 6/7 digit postcode. Again, crucial in my work. GPS satellite navagation is my favourite gadget invention of all time. Ahead of the TV, Radio, Telephone and internet (broadband). Every vehicle old or new should have one installed as standard within the next 5 to 10 years. Tom Tom Go 510 Review at Amazon...

Tom Tom Go 510 is my third time of using Tom Tom software - previously I have used it on PDAs and the hardware has caused lots of trouble - but I have had this unit for about a month and so far it has been great. It gets me where I want to go with no problems at all, although when I asked it to find me a police station in Newbury it told me there weren't any (there are)The only gripe I have is with the windscreen mounting - it sticks on the glass OK, but it is so fiddly to connect the unit to the mount. Apart from that - I love it! Tom Tom Go 510 Review at Amazon...

Definitely the best bit of kit I've bought for a long time. Delighted with all of the Tom Tom Go 510 facilities, especially the "hide the screen over a selected speed." It's too easy to constantly check the screen thus taking eyes off the road.
Overall the 510 does everything I expected it to and a lot of things I had not expected.
Occasionally, I found that I knew a quicker route due to local knowledge, but that is really immaterial. Tom Tom Go 510 Review at Amazon...
